Pure Belly blogging attempt #21

So as it turns out I, (Paige Smith) am horrible at blogging.  This is an odd occurrence since you can't shut me up in person but for whatever reason blogging is a challenge - which I need to overcome because I want our "fans" to get to learn more about Pure Belly and what we are up to.

What ARE we up to you ask?  So much, too much at times. I have four beautiful children- 6 yrs boy, 3 yrs boy and almost 2 yr old boy / girl twins- they keep me on my toes to say the least.  Jill my partner in crime with Pure Belly & our talented graphic artist http://www.jillbrewerdesign.com/ , she has a budding artist 5 yr old daughter and a huge (tall) 2 yr old boy.  We are a good 2 thousand miles away from one another too, I am in Northern California where the actual Pure Belly products are made/packaged/distributed (Made in the USA baby!) and Jill is in Nashville area Tennessee.  I think we do share a brain at times though.

So needless to say we are BUSY, but loving this journey which has been so blessed.  We recently got prime space at Goore's in Sacramento, largest baby store in Northern California.

We are so thrilled to be in an establishment like Goore's http://www.goores.com/goores/ .  The owners April & Ken Goore and all of the staff are just AMAZING and it makes us so proud that they are rooting for Pure Belly!!

Have gone into the store on occasion to sell Pure Belly in person just because I LOVE to be able to help a Mom-to-be tackle the same issues I had during pregnancy... makes it so sweet and worth it all when women tell me thank you for bringing my products to market- will never get tired of it.

Next on the Pure Belly agenda....  ABC kids 2011 http://www.theabcshow.com/ (biggest trade show on a wholesale level), this year they are in Louisville, Kentucky!!  I am so excited for the show and equally excited about all the sweet tea I will consume while there :)  We will be sharing a booth with one of my besties Deidrea Haysel of Hot Mama Gowns http://www.hotmamagowns.com/. We met on twitter and it was love at first inappropriate tweet ;)  We both were born with missing filters I think (but in the best possible way, just like a girl way- ya know?).  I was even lucky enough to join her on the hit TV show Shark Tank, season 2!!  http://www.hotmamagowns.com/category/shark-tank-season-2/  THAT was CRAZINESS in a word (might not be a real word).  Could seriously write an entire blog post on that... might.  Anyways, booth # 1932, just follow the sound of laughter- that will be us!!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Summer with the families, stop by the Pure Belly, LLC Facebook page and say Hi!  We love to hear from you all.

Changing face...

As Pure Belly goes through these early motions of existing we are learning new things about our company and ourselves everyday.  Jill (co-founder and graphic artist) and I have done a beautiful job portraying Pure Belly, when you work this hard on something you can brag it's allowed. Beauty and understanding was our basis for our design.  We are taking this and applying a simple way to tell our story.  This month we will be changing our image to better translate quickly what it is that our cornerstone product the Pure Belly Wrap does and how it works. I began this mission with the Pure Belly Wrap to protect a pregnant women's growing skin during the day when she was most subjected to gravity- thus the need to moisturize strained skin and to have a protective barrier for her wardrobe from all of the oil/butter/lotions (Protect your skin.  Protect your wardrobe.)

You will see this 3 body image on more and more Pure Belly in the coming days.  It instantly shows the function and purpose which is a huge selling advantage for retailers!!

As always, thank you all for your support.

Best,
Paige

Breasts all wrapped up!!

Being a Mother of four including a set of twins, and nursing the lot of them I have some experience in the breast department!  With my first son it was NOT a cake walk.  I did not have much help or guidance in the ways of breastfeeding.  I gave it my best and at best lasted in anguish for the first five months, pumped more than anything towards the end and then had a horrid experience when I made the decision to "dry up".  Just quickly, why is it called that, Ladies this needs a more serious name- please leave comment on the bottom with your clever new name for it--BEST COMMENT GETS A FREE Pure Comfort Breast Wrap --PASS IT ON!!

Now that you all are trying to think of a way to beat a certain witty Hot Mama many of us know and love, please try and pay attention to the rest.  So as I was saying with the first it was brutal, the drying up part.  While I was devastated at the time feeling like a failure of a first time Mother, I was also in an insane amount of pain for what I felt went on forever!  No amount of pain killers could help this pain.  Tender seemed like such a silly word, now torture there is a word.  Would wrap myself in my husband's ace bandages with a hand towel on the inside for softness.  Taking the whole contraption off to replace my cool and warm packs became more frustrating as time went on.  In the shower I would wear a bikini top and even that seemed painful to put on but I needed something to sheild me from the water pressure.  I am telling you this long drawn out sob story because this time in my life partially inspired my breast wrap.  The other long part I will sum up by telling you that I nursed twins for a year, exclusively.  My second son WAS a cake walk and made me a huge breastfeeding advocate, had I known what I learned with him my first time would have been worlds different- though I still felt a lack of good nursing garments even in a time of ease.

If you are pregnant, nursing or having to "dry up" this wrap will make this time more enjoyable or on the flip side not so hellish.  This product was perfected while I was still nursing the twins, my amazing product developer and I delivered the Pure Comfort Breast Wrap, the most perfect pregnancy/nursing bra ever!  That was dramatic but it could be true :)  This wrap has it all- made of an amazingly soft breathable bamboo blend, simple and sleek, strapless with very light boning to not give that tube top looking boob shape, simple nursing access which many are starting to report they find it capable of holding on their breast pumps, and if you are going to nurse or pump your breast WILL change in size to reflect the coming and going of milk- which is why this bra is fully adjustable and will accommodate you 24/7.  Sleep, shower, work, play, I personally did a rigorous TRX workout today and did not touch it once!  (no crazy readjusting needed).  Jill (VP of Pure Belly) has her own reasons for loving the Pure Comfort Breast Wrap that many of you could relate to, sure she will share her story soon.

We have put our hearts and souls into bringing Pure Belly products to market with products that will be successful because of their quality, versatility and attention to detail.  Products that were born out of three experiences on my part and the views and experiences of those around me.   The point is, I knew these products were NOT going to be popular because of cute packaging OR being produced by some big brand name company that had the money and power to flood the market.  The meaning of our brand and our products down to our decision to only produce in the USA is compassion for our Moms, babies and economy.  As we grow it is our goal to help other Momprenuers bring their ideas to market.  Ideas that we get from Mom moments, I encourage every Mom to let those wisps of ideas take root and see what happens.

Please help reach Moms with Pure Belly!

So..........................

Alright Pure Belly peeps, here is the deal- Jill and I (along with a very long list of supporting cast) have been busting our tails for about a year to get Pure Belly to the point it is right now.  So to all of our adoring and patient fans... We will be to you soon.  We may have some very exciting things in the works on our end so we are having to slow our roll--sort of speak (Mom, that's slang for "slow down the pace we were going at").   It is not often that a product, let alone 6 get to market in under a year.  The reason we were capable of going so quickly is our amazing product developer with her 35 years experience and a devoted circle of friends and family.

I want Pure Belly to get into the hands of all the baby bump having gals out there and we will soon.  Just please remember that sweet saying--Good things come to those who wait.  Believe me we are excited to share our never before seen products with you all.  Sometimes I just pinch myself or Jill for fun, can't believe that Pure Belly is about to EXPLODE on the scene!!  If you equate this to pregnancy, which maybe I shouldn't follow this by the word explode, but I would say we are at about 39 weeks prego...  We are timing our contractions and looking for towels.

And, if that beautiful visual wasn't enough for you... Jill has seriously out done herself with this site!  I will go as far to say that the Maternity Market better watch there backs...  www.PureBelly.com   Will be the most beautiful site there is!  It has it all-- it is immediatly imformative, sexy, stunning images, oh the list goes on...  Get ready to shop soon!!

Have a great weekend!!

Hold on tight!!

The Pure Belly family has been on a crazy roller coaster ride since February of this year.  The ups and downs and scary loop-de-loop moments have taken our breath away at times.  I don't think that anything could have prepared us for this adventure.  What started out as frustration as to why these products were not on the market, has become a full fledged business!  We are so excited about the opportunities that have presented themselves (some with little or no work on my part to me busting tail and biting the bullet to bring it to fruition).  Pure Belly will debut on Philadelphia's NBC morning show with Premier Baby Concierge's Shannon Choe.  We feel very fortunate that Shannon has picked our products to be featured on her Holiday Gift Guide segment. We also have print ads, editorials, trade shows, and gifting suites coming up this month and early next year.  We are excited and fully aware of the impact this could have on our families lives and we do not take one moment of it for granted.  The support from family and new friends is always felt on our hearts and pushes us forward to follow this dream.  A special thank you to Tyler & Carolina Bussell and Kara Duke for this last photo shoot that Jill is using for the beautiful site she is putting together, hope all of our new Pure Belly Mommies enjoy the experience.

Site will be up with NBC video loaded by this coming December 14th.  For FREE shipping and 15% off please use code: WinterBaby   (dedicated to my first son that I brought home Christmas day!)  For Christmas delivery order by December 15th!!

Upcoming Youtube Video, better get my hair done!

Hello fans, friends and readers!

You know it is funny when I first started this blog I was so naive to the fact that you could read it without "following it".  After looking at my stats I was blown away by the fact that people are really reading this thing. It was at this point that I realized that people may be searching for more answers or info on Pure Belly products, how they are designed and see them functioning, how do they benefit Mom.

I admit I was a tad ambitious when I decided to launch with 6 products, this I know.  But, I had to get  these to Moms that were searching just as I had for simple things like something to keep belly butter on your bump and not clothes or bedding, that would accommodate rather than constrict and extend shrinking wardrobe to boot.  A bra with an adjustable bustline!  Breast change size after feedings or when the wind blows(especially with twins)-it needed nursing access and securely hold cool packs in place even at work or chasing the other two boys around.  And, I could never pass up the opportunity to share my famous "wash cloth trick" -Pure Ease our organic labor compress - simple - warm wet skin stretches also allows you to relax your muscles and focus on the task ahead of you, with a pocket to hold ice for postpartum care rather than the baby diaper or latex glove they give you in the hospital, we just had a baby, dignity please!

So now I am faced with the task of educating consumers about 6 new products that they nor the market has seen the likes of before.  After some thought and poking around on the Internet I decided the best way to do this is to make a You tube video.

Thanks for going on this journey with me! As a mom of four I needed to live out my dream for more reasons than one.  They are all so proud of our family business and I am loving every minute of it!

So please, please ask anything that you are curious about and it WILL be answered!

Spring 2011 is underway...

We have released our Spring 2011 line, we did so at the ABC show in Las Vegas.  It was a wonderful and validating experience.  We had a beautiful spa like booth complete with bamboo walls and two large plasmas playing a gorgeous video of the Pure Belly collection.  When buyers were lured in first by the design they quickly fell in love with the products.  The Pure Belly team loved the physical reaction people had to the feel of our material, they would literally melt and say how it felt like butter.  This was exactly the response we had gotten in our testing rounds but to get this feedback from knowledgeable buyers was on a whole new level.  It was an absolute thrill to explain these products that countless hours/months had been poured into them.

First, the Pure Belly Wrap the NEW and NEXT LEVEL in skin care for stretching skin while pregnant and recovering.  When explaining its functions people understood that the skin needs to be supple and nourished while stretching for 9 months to accommodate growing baby.  I honestly thought I would have to explain it more than I did, it was a no brainer to our buyers- "Keeps product on your belly and off your clothes", easy.  Loved when the stretch mark product exhibitors would come into the Pure Belly booth after hearing about us, they wanted to educate us on why it was so essential to wear products on the skin during the harsh hours of the day when we are being affected by gravity.  Made new friends with many new brands of cremes/butters/oils, everyone was great!

Then, came the blooming belly- the one that Mom had designed and pix messaged me from her phone, the blooming design and visual explination of it being inspired by tulip petals was a big hit too.  Buyers noted the sleek signature Pure Belly band at the bottom of all of our products serves a few functions - holds our logo tag that will tell the world know that Yes you are Prego (comes in handy for that in between phase of our changing body) and hides a surprising trick to keeping our favorite jeans right up until end of carrying and even after baby- My "rubber band trick", as soon as the women would see the placement of the attachment a little light went off and the "I did this!" would come, (rubber band like attachment to wrap around button and through loop) they got it!!  YES! You can not imagine my thrill as time after time of sharing my products women, smart women, would tell me how impressed they were with the thoughtfulness and quality of the entire line.  To be honest I had to keep from tearing up a few times.  It had for the most part been easy but nothing comes without hard work, and we had done our fair share.  Some of the best moments of the show was when twitter/fb gals that had supported us to great extents got to finally touch the products and gave us big congrats.  My favorite was when people would add to our long list of functions, we had a very respected lady mention to us that she liked the idea of our Wrap and Blooming to be used as a means of covering your lower half while you nurse- so true.  Validation was ours!

Of course the rest of the line got equal amounts of attention.  Pure Ease was a hit with the mid wives, doulas and obs for many reasons but the biggest factor was the ability to use this as a means of focus for pushing during the labor process and prevent tearing (also holds ice for postpartum care rather than the alternative and is 100% organic).  Waterproof bag, pack of 2. in case you were wondering.

Pure Comfort Breast Wrap got praise for being the first of its kind as well.  Serves so many functions it is a true must have for Mommy-to-be, can wear in shower to shield sensitive nipples and breast from water pressure and temperature, has built in pockets to hold cool packs in place securely (which we recommend from http://www.smartchoices.com/), easiest nursing/pumping access for tender and engorged breast, adjustable bust line (1st on market) for ever changing breast size due to feeding, pumping, engorgement, great for going back to work Mom.  A narrow back and light boning make this the best strapless bra I have ever worn! This will flatter and comfort you.  Pair with the Perfect Pregnancy Pantie for that effortless sexy Pure Belly signature style. Everyone wants the Panties! Can not tell you how many times I heard people say they would wear them as a swim suit and that the full frontal coverage was such a confidence builder.  These two items were favorites for sure!

We want to thank the many stores that have placed orders and are going to be offering their customers the Pure Belly experience.  These are products that I wanted and searched for over my last 3 pregnancies and especially when carrying the twins this last year.  Enjoy!!  Orders will be shipping in a few weeks  It will be wonderful to see Pure Belly products all over the US and Canada (few Australia stores on the horizon too).  Thrilled to be touching women's lives and adding beauty, comfort and confidence to such a special time.

To celebrate our first month of success we are going to offer promotions!  Free Products & beautiful Bamboo floor displays with qualifying purchase.

To view line sheets/company info/drop shipping requests & promo list which ends 11-11-10,
please email sales@purebelly.com allow for 24hr turn around time before calling please.

Thank you all!!

Big News: Will REVEAL our products mid September!!

As I write the title to this blog, I get goosebumps.  This is going to be thrilling for all involved.  Pure Belly, LLC is devoted to addressing these voids in the maternity world.  This process has and is eye opening, I still catch myself in a moment that I know I will remember for the rest of my life.  I have described designing this line as surreal to more than one person, it is.  Is this really my life?  Just last January, still trying to come to the reality that I had two, count em' two babies in that growing out of control belly of mine (I was Pure Belly), I decided that I had wanted to "make" these make-shift products that I had successfully used over the course of my last three pregnancies, but make them beautiful.  My first job was at Nordstrom, there I learned about the quality of a garment and the importance of product presentation and branding.  Needed to share how these simple yet very important garments that you utilize during the day, when you need them most can absolutely change the lasting visual effects that can be left by pregnancy.  It took many trips 6 hours away to Arcata, with 4 kids and my AMAZING Mother, and back, was more than worth it.  I will cherish those memories of tearing up in my product developer's shop as I finally held in my hands the first of what was to be many Pure Belly garments, I teared up, as though I had a warm fragile baby in my hands.  This experience has been that of love and growth for me as a Woman and as a Mother.  I know who I am now, I know where I want to go.   Not being a college graduate, I often wondered if my children would be as proud as their Mama as they will be of their devoted Father, I feel like they will now, I feel proud.  Even if, God forbid I fall flat on my face (which I have been told many times, and yes by more people than my Mom, that "this is the next big thing"), I will still be very proud that I have brought this into the world, a company driven to better others lives on many levels.

Well, looking forward to the Big Reveal!!  Although, I am nervous as all get out!  So, maybe as early as Monday we will have a beautiful new picture up, kind of a new tease, bear with us, so much to do (wordage and so on).  But, come September 10th I will be off to Nashville to meet up with Jill!  I am so excited to watch her do her magic in real life.  To me, she and I brainstorm graphics and ideas and like Willy Wonka and the Everlasting Gob Stopper machine she pops out amazing creations!  Although, being kid free for four days I may just go wild and paint the town red!  I am sure we will at least accompany work with an adult beverage or two, helps with productivity.  So in short, and we will mention it I am sure about 1.5 million times til then, mid September we will start to reveal our products, one by one, week by week.  We will be giving free product to winners of contest and special things that we do so keep up with Pure Belly at a chance to win the very first Pure Belly products!!  All of our love to you all.  Please pass this on, we would really appreciate it.

So, this is why not every person owns their own biz, it is HARD!!!

Ugh!  I know this may not be an appropriate way to start a blog entry, but this is exactly how I feel.  It is becoming a vicious cycle.  I forget to eat all day so I end up pigging out at 10pm when I finally feel faint.  I mean to go to sleep at 11pm, I lay down, get an idea, get back up and voila it is 3am.  I swear I need to get my crap together!  My mother keeps loving giving me advice to go to sleep when the kids go to bed and just wake up early and get my work done before they wake.  Any of you fellow momopreneurs do this?  That is the other thing, twitter and FB, and even this blog.  I know I only have 9 people that follow me on here, not really sure why I am writing this except for the fact that it ends up feeling like free therapy.  This is hard, like your first baby kind of hard, the constant "are you still alive because you are so precious to me" feeling, which would make sense to you if you were like me and checked to see if my first son was breathing about every 10 minutes of his first month of life.  Something new seems to happen every hour with this company, so I am constantly checking its pulse- twitter, fb, emails, and voice mails.
So anyways, this is all very exciting but very scary.  I have met some amazing women along the way that have helped me beyond belief.  Sometimes I need a person that does not know me to tell me I am not a nut for doing this. But, of course they all have the same response, that this is going to be huge.  This I think scares me more than them saying that I am a complete moron for wasting our hard earned savings on this idea.  Why do I have such a fear of success right now.  I mean, I want it, I would not be trying to accomplish these goals if I did not.  But, I just wish I could flash forward to the second that I am either accepted or rejected by a person that actually would be in the position to buy my products.
Every decision is huge right now.  We are designing and creating everything these next couple of weeks.  Hopefully, our material will get final approval this week and we will write that gut wrenching check, but at least get started in production.  By the way, the most frustrating part of this entire process, material.  So then, the next week, I think I may take a stroll up to Arcata- another 6 hours, was thinking Friday, I will then finalize and approve all 7 of our garments.  Still have woven logo tags, care labels, hang tags, promo, our exclusive pure butter, and so much more to approve and yuck, pay for!  So thank you nine people that may or may not read this, I guess I should apologize instead of thank you.
Personal notes:  Todd is getting his cast off on Wed. July 28!!  Whoot whoot!!  We will be back in business with water!  This poor kid just wants a darn bath so bad.  I can not imagine!  He has been a trooper.  And, Mr. Brett, he lost that front tooth that he broke when he was 2, it was black and I always hoped that would be the first to go, yipee.  He has a bottom tooth that is loose now.  We tried to use an episode of America's Funniest Home Videos in our favor, a kid that is whaling that it hurts, then the Dad yanks on the string and he says "dat didn't even hurt", yeah Brett was not having it, said he rather go to the Dentist.  Oh well, it will fall out sometime, I see a lot of apples in his future.  The twins are great, Alex can make it to the top of the stairs with me-- Yes, I am careful, just heard a cyber gasp from my mother!  Aubrey is kinda mean actually, she beats us up big time, and scratches, growls too.  So much for my sweet little princess.
Ok- back to work, feel better since I ended my therapy with talking about my kiddos, maybe I should go to bed.  Oh, wait it is 10pm, guess what I forgot to do!?

Hello, Storm....

Well, my last blog post was about the calm before the storm, I think we are seeing the clouds forming in the sky.  Good thing I actually love storms, the smell of the air, the feel of electricity in the air, I find it all very exciting.  We have have decided to add to our line up to have a more complete presentation to potential buyers.  Every decision that I make right now is huge.  We are trying to build a brand that is instantly recognized as a quality and luxurious product, while having a strong focus on customer service.
Our customers are going to be our life blood.  I want to include our customers in the development of our business as much as possible.  With this very thought in mind, I have decided to put together a sort of grant system.  A place on our website that customers may nominate a charity, program, or an actual person in a conflicting situation.  Coming from the position of having two boys and then being surprised with twins the week my husband was laid off, I have and will always have a soft spot to the arrival of a blessing in the not easiest of times.  So, we want our customers to have a place to share these hardships and apply for a grant from PureBelly that will come out of a predetermined and constant percentage amount for our choice of charitable cause or causes.  The amount and frequency of these donations will be determined with our profits, the more we sell the more we can give!!  I think I am most excited about the giving part, tidings.  I want this company to be HUMAN, I think that is one thing that so many companies overlook, having a human side.  Being a company created by a bunch of women, think this is inevitable.
So looking forward through the dark clouds, I see the light and can't wait to share it with you all!!  We are still hoping that our site and product launch will be in August some time... cross your fingers, toes, and say a prayer!! Thank you all for the amazing support, we appreciate everything that comes our way more than you will ever know!!

I think we can, I think we can...

Well, it feels like the calm before the storm.  Storm of things to get accomplished.  Next week we will be about completing some legal issues, which means piles of paperwork, not my strong suit.  But, also get to complete a ton of creative things.  Also, patience has never been a virtrue of mine, feels like this is taking forever, just began process in Febuary, so I guess not.  My product developer keeps telling me that these things take time, average company takes 18 months to 2 years to get up and running with a line.  Now way, i would go nuts!  Hope to approve our material on thursday and be in full blown production in a month.  Hoping to give out samples to doulas and ob patients soon, feedback is a must!!  Want to get this right the first time!!

Where we are, where we are going...

The photo shoot in L.A. was perfect, got great pictures of our model Heather Newton.  Our photographer Louis De Barricua was amazing and very creative.  Now for Jill Birge Brewer to put it all together into a beautiful luxurious website.  As for me, so many little critical things to get accomplished in order for us to start production and selling.  We are so very close to production we have 5 different products that are ready for their debut, well almost ready anyway.  Now, for spending big bucks which makes me want to gag!  But, I need to just keep pushing forward as the creator and owner of Hot Milk, maternity lingerie told me this morning!!  In this economy it is hard sometimes to justify going after your dreams so passionately but my husband Ryan believes in this and me so much that it makes the descision to do this everyday, and so quickly, an easy one.  Can not wait to actually blog about our products and how they can help your pregnancy and labor be more successful and comfortable.  Just want to scream it from the mountain tops!!  Stay tuned my 7 followers LOL!!

Sunday, June 13, 2010

This next week is critical for us.  Monday we will finalize care labels, hang tags, fabric, possibly another product.  Needing everything to fall into place this week.  The journey to L.A. begins Friday, once there we will get ready for our photoshoot with a beautiful model on Saturday.  I am so thankful that my sister, mother, and best friend will be coming as well.  From the start so many people have been involoved in one way or another, getting me quickly to this point, so close to having a successful company, line of products, and respected brand.  We WILL do this.  GO PureBelly GO!!!  ps- having an amazing husband that pushes me to conquer my dreams everyday is such a blessing!!
